GOPHER WOMEN COMPETE ON SECOND DAY OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Minnesota's Aubrey Schmitt and Corinne Nimtz both competed, but did not place in their events, during the second day of competition at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Boise State.
Schmitt, the two-time Big Ten champion in the shot put and the runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Championships this year, finished 19th with a throw of 14.32 meters (46 feet, 11 3/4 inches). She entered the competition ranked 16th.
Nimtz, the Big Ten runner-up in the 10,000-meter run, finished 16th in the event in a time of 35 minutes, 40.76 seconds, placing three spots ahead of her 19th-place ranking.
The Gophers will have three team members competing Friday. Christine Gulbrandsen participates in the triple jump, where she ranks 20th. Nicole Chimko, ranked fourth, and Linda Lindqvist, ranked seventh, both take part in the javelin.
