TEAM CANADA IMPRESSES AT USA DISABILITY SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

FSeveral members of team Canada took home gold medals in their respective classes in the first day of the USA Swimming Disability Championships held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Fourteen year-old Stephanie Dixon won the 100 meter freestyle competition in her physical disability class with a time of 1:08.25. She also won the gold medal in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:30.24. Also winning two medals for Canada was 16 year-old Jessica Sloan. She took home top honors in the 100 meter freestyle in her disability class with a time of 1:03.24 and also won the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:41.34.

Atlanta native Curtis Lovejoy won the 50 meter breastroke in his disability class with a time of 1:43.49. Canada's Benoit Huot won the 200 meter backstroke in his disability class with a time of 2:22.61.

The USA Swimming Disability Championships will continue tomorrow. Preliminaries will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the finals at 6 p.m.
