VOELZ EARNS WOMEN IN BUSINESS RECOGNITION

WomeUniversity of Minnesota women's athletics director Chris Voelz was honored as one of the 25 most influential women in business in the Twin Cities on Thursday by CityBusiness. The Most Influential Women were chosen for their impact on the community and performance in their current position and were nominated by peers and colleagues.

Voelz is entering her 12th year as the women's athletics director and is the longest-serving women's athletics director in Minnesota history. She oversees 11 Division I sports at Minnesota, one of six schools nationwide with a separate women's athletics department.

During her tenure, academic achievements, athletic accomplishments and fundraising returns have been at an all-time high. The Golden Gophers' 11 teams have combined for a cumulative grade point average of higher than 3.0 for 22 consecutive academic quarters. Before Voelz arrived, Minnesota had recorded only one top-20 national finish. Since her arrival, the Gophers have scored 21 top-20 finishes.

Voelz has facilitated the building of the University Aquatic Center, the Sports Pavilion, and new facilities for the hockey, tennis, soccer and softball teams through effective legislative lobbying and private donations.
