HARTUNG WINS BIG TEN MEDAL OF HONOR AWARD

tUniversity of Minnesota senior Tim Hartung was named recipient of the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor for the 1998-99 academic year. Each member of the Big Ten Conference presents this award annually to a student- athlete who demonstrates a high degree of proficiency in both scholarship and athletics.

In his senior campaign, Hartung completed the season with a flawless 39-0 overall record en route to his third consecutive Big Ten title and his second straight NCAA title at 197 pounds. In addition, Hartung was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year and finished his collegiate career carrying a 58-match winning streak dating back to January of 1998.

Off the mat, Hartung is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as well as a three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Academic First Team member. This year Hartung received GTE/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America honors.

This past Spring, Hartung completed his degree in sports administration in kinesiology and plans to attend graduate school and train for the 2000 Olympic Games.
