GOPHER SOCCER LOSES 1-0 AT IOWA STATE

KaThe No. 22-ranked University of Minnesota soccer team was defeated at Iowa State by a score of 1-0, dropping their record to 2-1 on the season. Iowa State improves to 4-1.
Iowa State midfielder Katie Antongiovanni scored the match's lone goal at the 16:47 mark with assists credited to Krista Odenwald and Annie Henley. Cyclone goalkeeper Lynley Hilligoss earned the shutout victory by collecting five saves. Minnesota held an 8-6 edge in shots but Iowa State fired off six corner kicks to the Gophers' two.
Minnesota's Nicole Lee collected four shots for the Gophers but was the only forward to see a scoring opportunity. Gopher keeper Dana Larson gave up the early goal but shut down the Cyclones after that with four saves.
Minnesota continues its non-conference schedule on Sunday when the Gophers host Southern Methodist at 1 p.m. at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
