oveUniversity of Minnesota senior forward Nicole Lee found the left corner of the net from seven yards out with just four seconds left in the second overtime period to give the Golden Gopher soccer team a much-needed 2-1 victory over Iowa on Sunday.
Minnesota (3-3, 1-1 Big Ten) snapped a three-match losing streak with the victory and avoided a disastrous start to its conference season after Friday's 2-1 double overtime loss at Illinois.
Lee notched the game-winning goal on just her second shot in the match. Minnesota dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Hawkeyes by a 26-11 margin.
The Gophers struck early, taking a 1-0 lead on junior midfielder Erin Holland's first goal of the season, an unassisted blast from 15 yards out. Iowa fought back to tie the match in the 52nd minute.
Minnesota returns home next weekend for matches on Friday, Sept. 24 against Michigan State and Sunday, Sept. 26 versus Northwestern.
