The 15th-ranked University of Minnesota men's golf team is in a holding pattern after two separate rain delays caused suspension of play in the second round of the Ping/Golfweek NCAA Preview at Grand National Lake Course in Opeilika, Alabama. The event, hosted by Auburn University, is played each fall at the golf course that plays host to the following spring's NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

The start of morning play was delayed 50 minutes because of rain. The second round began at 8:30 am, and it rained continuously with slow play until action was suspended for an hour at 1:35 p.m. Play continued at 2:45 p.m., but was suspended due to darkness with a number of teams still on the course.

Second round play will continue Tuesday at 7 am Central followed by the third and final round, which will begin immediately with a shotgun start.

Clemson led the team portion of the event after one round. Defending NCAA champion Georgia and Northwestern were in second place at the start of day two. The Golden Gophers were in 11th place in the 18 team event. Seventeen of the 18 teams participating in the tournament are ranked in the Golfweek preseason top 25.
