GOLFERS TRAVEL TO MICHIGAN STATE

REWIND: THE LADY NORTHERN INVITATIONAL -The women's golf team finished in a tie for 11th place at the Lady Northern Invitational at University Ridge in Madison, Wis. The Golden Gophers scored 317 in the third round, their best round of the tournament, to end at 967 and tie with Illinois State.
Newcomer Karyn Stordahl (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) recorded her second straight round of 76 and finished at 236, tying for 28th place. Junior Katie Bakken (Brooklyn Center, Minn./Brooklyn Center/California) placed 43rd at 242. Minnesota's other scorers were sophomores Megan Stier (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine), who placed 54th at 247, and Cindy Cannon (Big Lake, Minn./ Monticello), who placed 58th at 248.
Purdue won the team competition, finishing at 896, five strokes better than host Wisconsin. Purdue's Stacy Orschell earned medalist honors by recording her second round of 71 for the tournament and finishing at 1-over- par 217.
STIER RECORDS EAGLE - Megan Stier recorded Minnesota's first eagle of the season at the Lady Northern Invitational, on the par-5 13th hole in Friday's first round. Stier finished in a tie for first after three rounds at the Minnesota Invitational Sept. 12 and took Eastern Michigan's Stephanie Smoot to six playoff holes before falling.

Arthur is the former assistant golf coach for both the men's and women's teams at Washington State University. She was a two-time All-Big Eight Conference selection at Iowa State and earned first-team All-Midwest District accolades her senior season.
