GOLDEN GOPHERS FINISH 14TH AT THE 1999 ROY GRIAK INVITATIONAL

The University of Wisconsin picked up their fifth individual Roy Griak Individual title in six years as they took top honors with 86 points. Brigham Young University took a distance second with 133 points and Northern Arizona rounded out the top three with 143 points. No. 5 Oregon took fourth place with 172 points.
The Men's Gold race individual winner was Steve Fein of Oregon who ran a winning time of 24:13. Jay Driscoll of Portland took runner-up honors with a time of 24:23, while senior Jay Schoenfelder of Wisconsin took third place with a time of 24:24.
The Men's Maroon Race team winner was Minnesota State, Mankato with 72 points, just 2 points over Wisconsin- LaCrosse, who had 73 points. North Dakota State took third place with 191 points.
The individual winner for the Men's Maroon Race was Mark McKeown, who was running unattached with a time of 25:03. Matt Hoyt, also running unattached, took second place with a time of 25:16 and Minnesota senior Jeremy Polson, running as an unattached runner, took third place with a time of 25:23.
Other Golden Gopher finishers include: sophomore Andrew McKessock (92nd) with a time of 26:06; senior Josh Brang (94th) with a time of 26:07; Jason Owen (106th) with a time of 26:15; Nate Clay (114th) with a time of 26:18; freshman Scott Utne (174th) with a time of 27:03; senior Chuck Smith (191st) with a time of 27:29; freshman Erik Quam with a time of 28:03, and freshman Will McComb with a time of 28:58.
The Golden Gophers will travel to Eau Claire, Wis., on Oct. 8 to take part in the Blue/ Gold Invitational.
