WOMEN'S GOLFERS IN FIFTH AT MICHIGAN STATE

StThe Minnesota women's golf team is in fifth place at 315 after the first round of the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.

Freshman Karyn Stordahl leads the Gophers after a first- round score of 78, good for 18th place. Sophomores Cindy Cannon and Megan Stier and freshman Kirstin Whalen are one stroke behind at 79, tied for 26th.

Indiana leads the team standings at 298, followed by Kent at 306. Kent's Jan Dowling and Indiana's Sami Montgomery are tied in the individual standings at 72.

Play was suspended in the second round, which will be completed Sunday at 7:30 a.m. The third round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
