GOPHER HOCKEY NAMES CAPTAINS FOR THE 1999-2000 SEASON

Nate Miller, junior defenseman Dylan Mills, and junior forward/defenseman Erik Westrum have been named captains of the Golden Gopher hockey team for the upcoming 1999-2000 season.

Miller, a native of Anoka, Minn., has played in 122 of 124 games in his first three seasons as a Golden Gopher. Miller, who has 19 career goals, has played in 98 straight games dating back to his freshman season.

Mills, a native of Duluth, Minn., led the team with a + 6 plus/minus rating last season. He was honored on both the all-WCHA and all-Big Ten academic teams following the 1998-99 campaign.

Westrum, a native of Apple Valley, Minn., doubled his point production from his freshman season (6-12--18) to his sophomore season (10-26--36). Westrum, who is considered one of the most versatile performers in the WCHA, played both forward and defense each of the last two seasons for the Golden Gophers.

Minnesota opens official practice on Fri., Oct. 1. The season opener is slated for Sat., Oct. 16 in Orono, Maine against the defending NCAA Champion Maine Black Bears.
