GOLDEN GOPHERS SCORE 3-2 VICTORY OVER MAVERICKS
1/28/2000 12:00:00 AM | Athletics
With the Gophers down a man, sophmore John Pohl poked the puck away from a Maverick defenseman and pushed it ahead to Miskovich, who split the Mankato defenders, and slid the puck between goaltender Eric Pateman's pads for the game-winner.
Pohl had a hand in all three Minnesota goals on the night as he collected two goals and an assist. He has now scored five of the last nine goals that the Golden Gophers have scored at Mariucci Arena. The Red Wing, Minn. native got Minnesota on the board at the 4:52 mark of the first period with his 13th goal of the season on the power play.
The Mavericks would strike right back just 39 seconds later with a goal from Jerry Cunningham. They would take a 2-1 lead just 31 seconds after tying the game as Tyler Baines hit Tim Wolfe with a pass right in front of Gopher netminder Adam Hauser and tipped the puck between Hauser's pads.
John Pohl would score his second goal of the game, a power-play talley, at 12:44 of the second period to tie the score at 2-2.
Hauser finished the night making 40 saves and held the Mavericks scoreless over the final two periods to record his 12th win of the season.
The two teams face each other again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the series finale at Mariucci Arena.
