GOLDEN GOPHER FOOTBALL TEAM APPEARS IN FINAL POLL

releaseHead Coach Glen Mason's record- breaking University of Minnesota football team finished the year ranked ranked 17th in the final ESPN/USA Today poll and 18th in the final Associated Press poll released today. This marks the first time the Golden Gophers have been ranked in a season- ending national football poll since 1962 when Minnesota was ranked 10th in the final AP poll.

Florida State finished the season ranked No. 1 in both polls. In the AP poll, Virginia Tech finished the year ranked second with 1,647 votes, just three more than No. 3 Nebraska. Nebraska finished second in the ESPN/USA Today poll, while Virginia Tech was third.

A total of six Big Ten schools finished in the top 25 of both national polls. Wisconsin, fourth in both polls, was the highest ranked Big Ten team. Michigan finished the year in fifth in both polls, while Michigan State and Penn State finished seventh and 11th in both polls respectively. Also ranked is Illinois, 24th in the AP poll and 25th in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
