SWIMMING/DIVING TEAM OPENS WITH INTRASQUAD MEET

AquaticThe two-time defending Big Ten champion Minnesota women's swimming and diving team makes its first appearance of the 2000-2001 season with its annual intrasquad meet Saturday at the University Aquatic Center/ Dorothy L. Sheppard Pool. The Gophers are a much different team than last year, as half of the swimmers and half of the points from the 2000 Big Ten championship team have been lost to graduation.
HEAD COACH JEAN FREEMAN - The head coach of the women's swimming and diving team begins her 28th season with 17 new faces and the challenge of building a nucleus to compete for supremacy in the Big Ten. Jean Freeman is a four-time winner of the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor and the 1999 winner of the National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy, the first female winner in the award's 41-year history. She will be inducted into the Minnesota Women's Athletics Hall of Fame on October 28.
