SEIDL LIFTS GOPHER SOCCER TO OVERTIME VICTORY

EvaLaurie Seidl's goal just 2 minutes and 24 seconds into the overtime period lifted the Minnesota soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., on Sunday. The Golden Gophers improved their record to 8-8-0 overall and 5-5-0 in Big Ten play. Northwestern fell to 3-11-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference action.
Seidl nailed her sixth goal of the season off a cross from Kyndra Hesse. Sarah FitzGerald was credited with the second assist on the play.
Northwestern scored the match's first goal at the 22:23 mark and retained its 1-0 lead until the 71:39 mark of the second half when Gopher forward Kecia Lee tied the score at 1-1.
The Gophers used a 4-0 advantage in shots in the overtime period to outshoot the Wildcats by an 18-10 margin for the match. Minnesota goalkeeper Julie Eibensteiner needed just three saves to limit Northwestern to its one goal.
