SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM HOSTS ALUMNI MEET

The two-time defending Big Ten champion Minnesota women's swimming and diving team hosts its annual coed alumni meet Friday night at the University Aquatic Center. The Golden Gophers defeated North Dakota in their first intercollegiate meet of the season Saturday.
Logistics of the Meet
The meet features 15 events. The 1000 freestyle will not be contested. 1-meter and 3-meter diving will take place.
Minnesota defeats North Dakota in Season Opener
Minnesota defeated North Dakota 177-114 in the team's first intercollegiate meet of the season at the University Aquatic Center/ Dorothy L. Sheppard Pool. The Gophers won 15 of 16 events, losing only the 100 breaststroke. Senior Katy Christoferson (Burnsville, Minn./ Burnsville) and junior Jinny Smedstad (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/John F. Kennedy) made their 2000-2001 debuts and each won an event, with Christoferson winning the 200 breaststroke and Smedstad taking the 200 butterfly. Senior Tracy LaVoi (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won 3-meter diving, while sophomore transfer Kim Bahmer (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) won 1-meter diving.
