GOPHER MEN'S GOLFERS RANKED 15TH IN THE NATION

unranked,The University of Minnesota men's golf team is ranked 15th in the nation in the latest edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings released on Thursday. The Golden Gophers, previously unranked, have captured two team titles and posted a third-place finish in three fall tournaments.

Sophomore Wilhelm Schauman of Djursholm, Sweden also cracked the national list under the individual rankings. Schauman is listed 17th in the country after two individual titles at the PSINet Collegiate Invitational and the Wolverine Invitational, and a fourth-place showing at the recent Windon Memorial Classic. Schauman, who has posted even-par scores or better in 10 of his last 12 collegiate rounds, leads the team with a stroke average of 70.56 in nine rounds this season. He was also recently named Golf World collegiate player of the week.

Minnesota has been consistently ranked in the top 25 of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings in each of the last four seasons, and has posted three consecutive top 12 finishes at the NCAA Championships.

The Golden Gophers will be back in action for one final tournament in the fall season, participating in the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Invitational on Nov. 3-5 in Hilton Head, S.C.
