GOPHER SOCCER WINS AT PURDUE

(3-3-0The Minnesota soccer team captured its first road victory this season, shutting out Purdue, 2-0, in Big Ten action in West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday. The Golden Gophers improve to 4-6-0 overall (3-3-0 Big Ten), while the Boilermakers fall to 8-4-0 overall (3-3-0).

The teams played evenly in the first half, with the Gophers holding a 9-6 advantage in shots. Junior Samantha Meyers tallied the winning goal on a breakaway at the 50:58 mark of the second half. Sophomore Keely Dinse added an insurance goal, unassisted at the 59:49 mark.

Minnesota's defense held Purdue in check, building a 23-12 advantage for the match. Julie Eibensteiner and Nicole Chimko needed just three saves to share in the shutout victory.

The Gophers continue Big Ten play on Sunday at Indiana.
