Senior captain Erik Westrum has been named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 7-3 victory over Notre Dame in the Hall of Fame Game. The season-opening victory came before 18,064 fans at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Westrum, a native of Apple Valley, Minn., provided the leadership and offensive punch in Minnesota's victory. He scored the first of his two goals at the 3:35 mark of the second period to give the Golden Gophers a 3-0 lead over the Fighting Irish. He added a second goal later in the period to give Minnesota a commanding 5-1 lead.

A third-team All-WCHA performer last season, Westrum tallied his 44th and 45th career goals and the 10th multi-goal game wearing the Maroon and Gold. This is the first player of the week honor for Westrum.

Minnesota returns to the ice on Saturday night when it travels to Bemidji, Minn., for a first-ever meeting with Bemidji State. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
