andThe University of Minnesota added four new names to their already potent baseball program. Nate Broehm of Winona, Minn., Paul Dean of Naperville, Ill., Jake Elder of Delta, British Columbia Canada and Andy Hunter of Mendota Heights, Minn. all returned National Letters of Intent to the baseball coaching staff during this month's early signing period. Broehm is a 6'6", 210-pound junior college transfer who looks to add some collegiate experience to Minnesota's young pitching staff. Dean is an explosive outfielder that will bring a disciplined bat and a strong arm to the Golden Gopher outfield. Elder and Hunter are two that will help Minnesota the most by filling holes behind the plate. Elder was a member of the 2000 Canadian National Junior Team and has a precise arm from behind the plate. Hunter is the sole Twin Cities native among the group. The Henry Sibley senior has a powerful swing and a strong arm. Head Coach John Anderson is very excited about the new signees:

"We are proud to have signed these four student-athletes," said Anderson. "They meet our most immediate needs on the field for the 2002 season, and they are great matches for our baseball program at the University of Minnesota. Not only are they outstanding players, but quality people with outstanding values as well. It is a good start to this year's recruiting class, and we hope to add some additional quality to it next spring."
