Second Inning Surge Powers Gophers Past Gonzaga 6-2

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their two game midweek series with Gonzaga University tonight, using a big second inning rally to take down the Bulldogs 6-2 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Nathan O'Donnell got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota, tossing two shutout innings without giving up a hit and striking out one. Ben Gregory started the ballgame and went three shutout innings while striking out one.
At the plate, the Gophers were paced by Sam Hunt, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Easton Richter compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Weber Neels also contributed for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning when back to back two RBI doubles off the bats of Sam Hunt and Easton Richter got Minnesota out to an early 4-0 lead. Weber Neels added one more run on an RBI single out to center before the end of the inning, giving the Gophers a 5-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs failed to push any runs across before the Gophers built on their lead in the fourth inning. Minnesota scored a run on an RBI triple to right field off the bat of Hunt, scoring Jack Mosh from second and bringing the Gopher lead to 6-0.
Gonzaga put two runs on the scoreboard in the fifth before the game was over, but Minnesota was able to keep them from scoring throughout the final four innings and coast to the 6-2 victory.

» The Gophers power output was led by Hunt, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
