GEORGETOWN HANDS GOPHER MEN FIRST LOSS IN THANKSGIVING CLASSIC

The Golden Gopher men's basketball team (4-1)lost their first game of the season 76-60 to Georgetown (4-0) in the championship game of the Hawaii Pacific Thanksgiving Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Gophers went into the lockerroon behind by 19 points at half time after shooting only .185 from the field in the first half. They outscored the Hoyas in the second half, but not enough to make up the first half deficit. Minnesota finished with a .288 shooting percentage for the game. Georgetown had a great shooting night finishing at .453 from the field.
Minnesota freshman Michael Bauer came off the bench to lead the team with 17 points. Seniors John-Blair Bickerstaff and Terrance Simmons each added 11 points in the loss. Junior Dusty Rychart capped off a stellar performance in the tournament with six points and a team high 11 rebounds.
Georgetown's Kevin Braswell led all scorers with 18 points.
Rychart and Simmons were both named to the all-tournament team. Rychart finished the tournament with 72 points and 30 rebounds, including back-to-back games scoring over 30 points. Simmons finished the tournament with 52 points in three games, including 26 points against TCU on Saturday. Georgetown's Braswell was the tournament MVP.
The Golden Gophers return home Monday and have a day to prepare before leaving for Wednesday's game against Florida State in Tallahassee. The game will be broadcast on WCCO Radio and on television on the Midwest Sports Channel. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
