Senior captain Erik Westrum got Minnesota on the board at the 5:46 mark of the first period. The goal, from a behind the back pass from freshman Grant Potulny (below), extended his consecutive points streak to 14 games.
Freshman Matt Koalska increased the lead later in the period as he converted on the power-play at the 18:19 mark. Junior Adam Hauser stopped all 14 shots he faced in the period.
Hauser kept the Badgers scoreless for a fifth consecutive period as Minnesota increased the lead to 4-0 with goals from Aaron Miskovich and from Pohl on the power-play.
Wisconsin finally got on the board and took just 11 seconds to score twice. Brad Winchester scored at the 7:51 mark and Rob Vega beat Hauser just 11 seconds later. Sophomore All-American Dany Heatley assisted on the second goal, the only point for him for the series.
Pohl helped the Golden Gophers recapture the momentum at the 14:19 mark with his power-play goal that put the lead back to three at 5-2. On the night, the Golden Gophers converted on 3-of-8 power-play attempts. For the weekend, Wisconsin was 0-for-13 on the power-play, including 0-for-6 on the night.
Adam Hauser increased his record to 7-0-1 on the year and stopped 34-of-36 shots he faced to get the win.
