MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS FIRST EXHIBITION 96-56

The Golden Gophers won their first exhibition game Monday night in front of 6,117 fans at Williams Arena. Dan Monson's Gophers easily handed Team Concept the 96-56 loss.
The Gophers got out to a quick 11-point lead with less than three minutes expired in the game. From that point on the lead never dropped below nine. Helping the Minnesota to the early lead was sharp shooting by sophomore Shane Schilling and Team Concept's foul trouble. The Gophers were in double bonus with 9:47 to go in the half. Minnesota led by 22 points at half time. Schilling, freshman Michael Bauer and sophomore Ryan Wildenborg all were in double figures by half time, as was Team Concept's center, Todd Lauktenbach.
Minnesota plays its next game Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Yugoslavian Nationals.

The second half was more of the same. The Gophers seemed to dominate on both ends of the floor. The Gopher scoring did become more spread out however, as all five starters, Schilling, Bauer Wildenborg and seniors Terrance Simmons and John-Blair Bickerstaff ended the game in double figures. All other Gophers that got in the game scored as well. Three Gophers ended the games with double-doubles. Bauer finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Bickerstaff and Wildenborg each had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shane Schilling led all scorers with 27 points.
Only Lauktenbach ended with double figures for Team Concept. He finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds. His 14 rebounds led all players.Minnesota plays its next game Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Yugoslavian Nationals.
