tThe University of Minnesota men's golf program announced the signing of Simon Nash of Queensland, Australia to a national letter of intent to attend school and begin play with the Golden Gophers for the 2001-02 season.

Nash won the Queensland Close, an Australian professional tour event, playing as an amateur. He also captured the Gold Coast Open and is a member of the Queensland State Team of Australia.

Nash becomes the third Australian recruit in recent years for the Golden Gopher golf program. Former Golden Gopher James McLean, the 1998 NCAA individual champion, and current player Ben Meyers also hail from Australia. Assistant Coach Brad James, a native of Australia, has been instrumental in the recruitment of all three student-athletes.

"Simon will be a great addition to our team and we're very excited to welcome him as a student-athlete in our program," said Golden Gopher head men's golf coach John Means. "We hope Simon will continue the great success we've been fortunate to have with young Australian players."
