EIGHTEEN WOMEN STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

Four student-athletes who earned All-Big Ten recognition were named to the Academic All-Big Ten list. Two members of the Golden Gopher volleyball team, juniors Lindsey Berg and Stephanie Hagen, are two-time selections on both the All-Big Ten team and Academic All-Big Ten team. Berg has a 3.52 GPA in business and marketing, while Hagen has a 3.27 GPA in speech communication. Cross country senior Elaine Eggleston, who earned All-Big Ten and All-Midwest Region honors the past three seasons, has a 3.53 GPA while majoring in pre-veterinary, genetics and cell biology. Junior soccer player Alison Rackley earned her first All- Big Ten honor and second academic honor, with a 3.41 GPA in pre-nursing and psychology.
Five members of the Gopher volleyball team that is competing in regional action this weekend in Hawaii earned academic honors. The volleyball team takes on Santa Barbara on Thursday at 9 p.m. in the round of 16, with the regional final scheduled for 11 p.m. Friday. In addition to Berg and Hagen, senior Lisa Aschenbrenner and sophomores Lisa Axel and Anna Reines earned academic honors.
Six cross country student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team. Senior Corinne Nimtz has the highest GPA of the Minnesota student-athletes listed in the fall season, with a 3.92 GPA in business. Including Eggleston, other honorees are junior Victoria Moses and sophomores Chrissy Eid, Anita Menden and Alison Mumbleau.
The soccer team had the most honorees during the fall season, as seven student-athletes were named to the all-academic team. Junior Juli Montgomery has a 3.85 GPA in American Studies, while sophomore Keely Dinse has a 3.63 GPA in fisheries and wildlife. Including Rackley, other soccer players honored are juniors Allyson Brodie, Julie Eibensteiner and Juli Montgomery, and senior Laurie Seidl.
