GOPHER WOMEN DEFEAT OHIO, 92-73
12/8/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Minnesota (5-3) shot 50 percent in the first half to build a 46-27 lead at halftime but allowed the Bobcats (2-4) back into the game with 21 second-half turnovers. Ohio took advantage of the Gopher miscues to go on a 22-4 run and cut the Minnesota lead to 66-63 with 7:20 remaining.
The Gophers answered with a 15-2 run of their own to reestablish a lead over the next five minutes, fueled by a driving layup and a three-point play by Piroglu.
Joining Piroglu and Kane in double figures were Kim Prince with 13, Lindsay Whalen with 12 and Tanisha Gilbert with 11. The last time Minnesota had five players in double digits was Dec. 12, 1997 in a win over Western Illinois.
The Gophers finished the game shooting 55 percent from the field and 76 percent form the free throw line, making 25-of-33 charity tosses. Minnesota overcame 32 turnovers to capture the victory.
Minnesota's next action is Sunday, when the Gophers travel to St Louis for a 2 p.m. game.
