The Hawkeyes (9-15, 6-8) executed an efficient game plan, shooting 48 percent from the field (28-59), hitting 90 percent of their free throws (17-19), and turning the ball over just 12 times. Iowa finished with four players in double figures, led by Lindsey Meder with 15 points.
Iowa hit five of its first six shots to take a 12-2 lead, five minutes into the game. Minnesota, which had five turnovers in the stretch, worked its way back into the game behind the inside game of freshman Kim Prince. Prince scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the first half and brought the Gophers to within three points on two free throws at the 4:15 mark. The Hawkeyes, however, outscored the Gophers 10-4 in the closing minutes to take a 38-29 lead at intermission.
Meder opened the second half with two baseline three-pointers to give Iowa a double-digit lead, that the Hawkeyes would never relinquish.
Erin Olson joined Prince in double figures for the Gophers, scoring 12 points. Minnesota shot just 33 percent (19-57), while committing 20 turnovers.
Freshman guard Lindsey Lieser hit two three-point field goals to establish a new Minnesota single-season mark with 64. Lieser surpassed the previous record of 63, set by Shannon Loeblein in the 1994-95 season.
Minnesota (9-16, 2-12) plays at Penn State on Thursday, Feb. 24, and hosts Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 27, to close the regular season.
