GOPHER WOMEN CRUSHED BY NO. 6 PENN STATE

committPenn State clinched the outright Big Ten Conference title with a 92-43 thrashing of Minnesota at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pa., on Thursday.
The Golden Gophers (9-17, 2-13) committed five turnovers in their first six possessions and finished with 34 in the game. The No.6-ranked Lady Lions used the Minnesota miscues to build a 10-0 lead and never looked back.
A three-point field goal by Erin Olson at the 9:30 mark brought the Gophers to within nine points at 18-9, but Penn State retaliated with a 19-9 run to take a 37-19 lead at halftime. Olson led all Gophers with 14 points. Cassie VanderHeyden added 10 points.
Penn State (23-3, 14-1) finished with five players in double figures, led by Andrea Garner with 20.
Minnesota closes its regular season on Sunday, when the Gophers host Michigan State at 2 p.m.
