TAFFE HONORED AS WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

University of Minnesota freshman forward Jeff Taffe has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's sweep of Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich. The pair of wins gives the Golden Gophers and 11-3-0 record since Christmas and an overall record of 17-13-2 on the season.

Taffe assisted on a career-high four goals in Friday's 9-2 win over Michigan Tech, then on Saturday scored his eighth goal of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Huskies. The goal on Saturday was his first career game-winning goal. The Hastings, Minn. native has scored goals in five straight weekends, and has 6-5-11 in his last nine games. Taffe ranks sixth (7-8-15) among WCHA rookies in scoring (conference games).

The Golden Gophers will face top-ranked Wisconsin in a weekend series this Friday and Saturday night at Mariucci Arena, with both games starting at 7:05 p.m.
