SETON HALL SLIPS PAST GOLDEN GOPHER MEN

11Junior Terrance Simmons scored 19 points, including 14 in the second half and Dusty Rychart added 11, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall Pirates slipped past the Golden Gophers, 64-61, in East Rutherford, N.J.

In the first half, the Golden Gophers played tough and kept the score close throughout the half, even taking a three-point lead at the 16:35 mark on a Ryan Wildenborg lay-up and a Mitch Ohnstad foul shot. The Golden Gophers shot 36 percent to Seton Hall's 39 percent and went into the lockerroom down by three (28-25).

In the second half, continued to play tough and started out the second half with a Dusty Rychart lay-up to bring the Golden Gophers within one. But Seton Hall's Greg Morton nailed a shot to bring the Pirates' lead back to three. Seton Hall brought their lead to as much as five before Simmons hit a three to pull within two. Minnesota pulled into a tie with a Sinville lay-up and took a three-point lead on a Kyle Sanden three pointer. There would be two more ties and Seton Hall would lead by as much as six, but Minnesota played the Pirates' close and never let them take control of the game completely.Simmons cut the Seton Hall lead to three with 54 seconds left, but couldn't quite finish as the Seton Hall Pirates defeated the Golden Gophers, 64-61.

Terrance Simmons finshed with 19 points to lead all scorers. Dusty Rychart added 11 and Shane Schilling added six points in the Golden Gopher effort.

Samuel Dalembert led Seton Hall with 16 points and Rimas Kaukenas added 11 points and Shaheen Holloway scored 11 for the Pirates.

The Golden Gophers continue on the road when they take on Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
