MINNESOTA SWIMMING AND DIVING PLACES SECOND AT BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Massura won the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:44.61. He was also apart of the Big Ten Champion 400-yard medley relay, winning in a pool-record time of 2:55.40. Also apart of this team was Ricardo Dornelas, Max von Bodungen and Allen Ong< /a>. All in all, Massura was apart of four Big Ten Champion relay teams and won two titles individually.
Freshman Jeff Hackler won his first Big Ten Title, when he placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a NCAA automatic time of 1:57.79. Hackler's time was also a Michigan pool record.
Junior Dan Croaston won his second consecutive Big Ten Title in the three-meter diving competition when he place first with 631.40 points. Indiana's Tom Davidson placed second, scoring 565.20 points. Davidson won the one-meter competition earlier in the championships.
Ricardo Dornelas and Yoav Meiri each placed second in their respective events. Dornelas placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.70 and Meiri placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:45.98.
The Golden Gophers will play host to the 2000 NCAA Big Ten Championships on March 23-25 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
