WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS FALLS TO IOWA STATE

Minnesota's strongest event was the floor exercise, where the Golden Gophers tied their season-best score with 49.00 points. Sophomore Megan Beuckens and senior Judy Cavazos were part of a five-way tie for third place at 9.85, with sophomore MaryAnne Kelley right behind at 9.825. Rounding out the scoring for Minnesota were seniors Melissa Chang (9.775) and Kristi Selinger (9.7). But all six Iowa State athletes scored 9.80 or higher on floor, leading to a team score of 49.325.
Minnesota struggled on both uneven bars and balance beam. Minnesota's highest finisher on bars was Cavazos, who placed third at 9.80. The Gophers had to count scores of 9.225 and 9.350 and recorded a team score of 47.7. On the balance beam, Beuckens was third at 9.825 but the Gophers recorded a team score of 47.375.
On the vault, freshman Leigh Dixon was fourth at 9.775, with Kelley fifth at 9.750.
Beuckens placed third in the all around with a score of 38.975.
