SCHMITT REACHES TWO QUALIFYING MARKS IN WOMEN'S TRIANGULAR

Schmitt set a school and Minnesota Fieldhouse record in the weight throw with a toss of 62 feet, 8 1/2 inches. Her throws of 51-9 3/4 in the shot was over six better than her nearest competitor.
The Gophers won nine of the 14 contested events, including all of the running events except the 5,000-meter run and 60-meter hurdles.
Minnesota returns to action Friday and Saturday when they will take part in the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
