GOLDEN GOPHERS TURN BACK TIGERS, 4-2

Senior Nate Miller scored the game-winning goal at the 11:42 mark in the third period to give the Golden Gophers a 4-2 win over Colorado College Friday night in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.

In the first period, the teams had a combined 18 shots on goal and left the ice in a scoreless tie.

In the second period, Minnesota sophomore Erik Wendell broke the scoreless tie at the 10:55 mark and scored unassisted to make the score 1-0. Erik Westrum scored with assists from Dave Spehar and Dylan Mills at the 13:20 mark and the score was quickly 2-0.

In the third period, Colorado College got on the board when Aaron Karpan scored at the 1:59 mark to make the score 2-1. Golden Gopher Nate Miller scored to make the score 3-1. The Tigers' Jesse Heerema scored at the 12:18 mark to bring Colorado College within one (3-2). Colorado College pulled their goaltender and freshman Matt DeMarchi scored an empty-net goal at the 19:41 mark to give the Golden Gophers a 4-2 win at Colorado College.

The series will continue tonight as Minnesota will try and win the series in two. The game starts at 8:05 p.m. CST.
