WRESTLERS FINISH THIRD AT NCAAS; LESNAR IS NCAA CHAMP

StaThe No. 2-ranked University of Minnesota wrestling team finished third at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. The Golden Gophers collected 80 team points, which was behind Iowa's 116 and Iowa State's 109.5 points. Heavyweight senior Brock Lesnar won an NCAA title over Iowa's Wes Hand with a 3-2 decision in a tiebreaker.

Overall Minnesota crowned six All-Americans, tying the school's record for All-Americans the third consecutive year. At 125 pounds sophomore Leroy Vega earned his second All-America honor defeating Oklahoma State's Jeff Ragan with a 13-7 decision.

Freshman Jared Lawrence earned his first All-America honor with a sixth place finish after losing to Hofstra's Eric Schmiesing 9-4 at 149 pounds. At 157 pounds freshman Luke Becker also placed sixth, dropping a match to Nebraska's Brian Snyder 6-2.

Also earning his first All-America honor was junior Brad Pike at 165 pounds. Pike placed seventh, defeating Harvard's Joey Killar 9-3. Senior Brandon Eggum earned his third All-America honor placing third and defeating Oregon's Doug Lee 9-5.
