GOPHERS BLOW OUT MAVERICKS IN TOURNAMENT OPENER

aMinnesota (29-5-1) outshot Minnesota State, Mankato (8-25-2) 60-6 and Nadine Muzerall recorded her fifth hat trick of the season as the Gophers posted a 10-0 victory in the opening game of the WCHA-Women's League Championship.
Muzerall's three goals give her 46 on the season and her four-point effort extended her point-scoring streak to 20 games.
Tracy Engstrom, who scored the game's first goal, and Winny Brodt, named the league's defensive player of the year Wednesday night, each had two goals and an assist. Betsey Kukowski added three assists.
Crystal Nicholas need just six saves for her 15th victory of the season. One day after being named second-team All-WCHA, she posted her 25th career victory without a loss and 10th career shutout.
With the win, Minnesota now faces Wisconsin, a 9-2 winner over Bemidji State, in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. at the Bloomington Ice Gardens.
