GOLFER KATIE BAKKEN EARNS BIG TEN WEEKLY HONOR

BrUniversity of Minnesota junior golfer Katie Bakken was named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the Conference office announced today. Bakken, a Brooklyn Center, Minn., native, won her first collegiate medalist honor last weekend, capturing the title at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Florida.
Bakken shot a 2-under par 70 in the tournament's opening round, then carded a 77 in the second and final round of the tournament to pace the field with a 36-hole score of 147. Her two-round score of 147 bettered her career mark by six strokes.
The Golden Gophers, whose next competition is March 28-30 at the University of Hawaii Tournament, finished sixth as a team.
