SOFTBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO 10 WITH SWEEP OF PENGUINS

Minnesota set a season high with 11 runs and matched a season high with 15 hits in the opener. Sophomore Tammi Hays was 4-for-4, the second four-hit game of her career and scored three runs. Sophomore Jordanne Nygren was 3-for-3 with a single, double, her sixth home run of the season and four runs batted in. Angel Braden also drove in four runs with a three-run double and a run-scoring single. Angie Recknor was one out away from her second perfect game in three days before it was broken up with two out in the fifth inning. Recknor ended up with a one-hitter, her seventh shutout and her 15th win of the season.
In the nightcap, Minnesota scored the only run of the game in the top half of the first inning. Hays walked and advanced to second on a single by Veronica Roberts. The runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Hays scored on a sacrifice fly by Braden. Meagan Hautala pitched her third shutout of the year, a three-hitter with three strikeouts. Morgan Holden was the only Gopher with two hits in the second game.
Minnesota will conclude its Ohio road trip Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at Cleveland State at 2 p.m.
