GOPHER SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT NORTHERN IOWA TWICE

Jordanne Nygren hit her 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning of the first game to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead. The Gophers added two runs in the fifth inning on a triple by Veronica Roberts and a single by Nygren. Roberts was 4-for-4 in the game with two triples, the ninth time in Minnesota history that a Gopher has tripled twice in a game. Minnesota added four runs in the seventh inning, keyed by a two-run triple by Angel Braden and Morgan Holden's first home run of the season. Angie Recknor and Megan Hautala combined on a four-hit shutout, with Recknor winning her 18th game of the season.
In the nightcap, Recknor pitched a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out five batters. Recknor set a new Minnesota single-season record with 250 1.3 innings pitched and tied another record with her 28th complete game. The Gophers scored two runs in the third inning.on an error by Northern Iowa and a double by Braden. Minnesota completed the scoring with two fourth-inning runs on a single by Tammi Hays and a Panther error. Katie Orth had a career-high three hits and scored two runs for Minnesota.
The Gophers will host Creighton in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at noon at the Minnesota Softball Stadium.
