Minnesota is now 25-22 for the season, having won three of its last four games. Wisconsin-Green Bay is now 22-4, after being shut out for the first time this season.
In the opener, Minnesota scored a run in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Angel Braden. The Gophers added two runs in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice by Morgan Holden and a double off of the left field wall by Michelle Bennett. Braden, Jordanne Nygren and Katie Orth each had two hits to lead a nine-hit Gopher attack. Recknor's shutout was her ninth of the season, and made her the third first-year Gopher to win 20 games in a season.
Wisconsin-Green Bay built a 3-0 lead in the first half of the nightcap, but the Gophers rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Veronica Roberts cleared the bases with a three-run triple and scored on a wild pitch to conclude the rally. The Phoenix answered with four runs in the fifth and single runs in the final two innings to earn the doubleheader split. Tammi Hays and Holden had two hits for Minnesota in the second game.
The Gophers return to Big Ten action Friday with a doubleheader at Ohio State, beginning at 1 p.m. (CDT).
