WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM TRAVELS TO OHIO STATE

THE LADY BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL - The tournament will be played on the par-72 Ohio State University Scarlet Course. Six Big Ten Conference schools are scheduled to participate: Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin. Bowling Green, Kent, Louisville, Notre Dame, Ohio University, Princeton, Stetson, Toledo and Xavier will round out the field. Minnesota finished sixth at the 1999 Lady Buckeye Invitational with a three-round total of 955.
LAST COMPETITION: GOPHERS TIE FOR SEVENTH AT INDIANA INVITATIONAL - Minnesota tied for seventh place at the Indiana Invitational on April 8-9. The Gophers and Purdue tied with a two-round total of 655, 18 strokes behind first-place Indiana.
Junior Katie Bakken (Brooklyn Center, Minn./ Brooklyn Center) led the team with a fourth-place finish at 155, including a 2-over-par 76 in the final round. Sophomore Megan Stier (Belle Plaine, Minn./Bell Plaine) was next, tying for 30th at 166, with sophomore Cindy Cannon (Big Lake, Minn./Monticello) one stroke behind at 167. Junior Jenny Bruun (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) finished at 171, with newcomers Karyn Stordahl (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) at 173 and Kirstin Whalen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) at 178.
BAKKEN LEADING IN THE SPRING SEASON - Junior Katie Bakken has been Minnesota's top finisher in all four spring tournaments. She won the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational on March 14, finishing with a two-round total of 147, including a 2-under-par 70 in the first round. It was her first career victory. Bakken tied for 14th at the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Invitational a week ago and placed eighth at the Midwest Classic in Dallas on Feb. 27 in addition to her fourth- place finish this week at the Indiana Invitational.
UP NEXT - The Big Ten Championships will be held April 28-30 in Madison, Wis.
