MEN'S HOCKEY TEAM HANDS OUT AWARDS AT ANNUAL BANQUET

reThe University of Minnesota men's hockey team honored its seniors at their annual year-end awards banquet on Sunday afternoon at Prom Center in Oakdale, Minn. The Golden Gophers ended the 1999-2000 regular season with an overall record of 20-19-2.

Seniors captain Nate Miller, along with classmates Ryan Trebil, Rico Pagel, Dave Spehar, and Mike Lyons were recognized for their contributions to the Golden Gopher men's hockey program over the course of the last four seasons.

Junior forward Erik Westrum of Apple Valley, Minn., was named the team's John Mariucci Most Valuable Player winner for the 1999-2000 season, while freshman Jeff Taffe of Hastings, Minn., was awarded with the Frank Pond Rookie of the Year honor.

Senior Ryan Trebil was named the John Mayasich Outstanding Student-Athlete award winner. Trebil, who will graduate in May with a degree in biology, is one of five seniors who will all receive their degrees either following the current semester or at the conclusion of fall semester next school year.
