NORTHWESTERN DEFEATS GOPHER SOFTBALL FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY

The Gophers were shut down by Wildcat first-year hurler Lauren Schwendimann, who allowed four hits and struck out eight. Shelly Nichols had two of the Gophers' four hits in the game. Northwestern broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with four runs after two were out. Erin Jancic and Brooke Siebel hit back-to-back two-run singles to account for the four runs. The Wildcats scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to close the scoring.
Minnesota will play its next 10 games on the road, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader at Wisconsin-Green Bay on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
