nUniversity of Minnesota women's hockey coach Laura Halldorson announced that goalie Stephanie Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) has accepted an offer of admission and will join the team next year.

Johnson becomes the eighth member of this year's recruiting class for the American Women's College Hockey Alliance national champions. A recruited walk-on, she joins forward Jerilyn Glenn (Ham Lake, Minn./Forest Lake), a signee with the Gophers during the November signing period, La Toya Clarke (Pickering, Ontario/ Dunbarton Secondary), Kelsey Bills (Carstairs, Alberta/ Hugh Sutherland High School) and Tracy Palinsky (Port Elgin, Ontario/Notre Dame Secondary) along with defense Cecilia Retelle (Madison, Wis./Culver Academy), Melissa Coulombe (St. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba/St. Pierre Collegiate) and Stefanie Snow (Bedford, N.H./Cushing Academy).

"She's a strong student-athlete who we're happy to include in the program," Halldorson said. "She'll give us depth at the goaltending position and she's a hard worker with talent. We expect her to develop further while she's in college."

This year's group of eight players is the Gophers' largest recruiting class since the team's inaugural season. Minnesota loses just one player from this year's national championship squad, senior co-captain Shannon Kennedy.
