MINNESOTA WRESTLERS TAKE PART IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

thisMembers of the University of Minnesota wrestling team recently participated in both the University National Freestyle Championships held in Evanston, Ill. (April 7-9), and the U.S. Nationals held this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.

Freshman Garret Lowney, who is taking an olympic redshirt year, garnered a second place finish at 213 pounds (97 kilo) in Greco-Roman at the U.S. Nationals which now makes him eligible to compete in the final olympic trials to be held in Dallas, Texas, June 21-24.

At the University National Freestyle Championships which is a 24- under tournament open to 400 competitors sponsored by USA Wrestling, redshirts Ryan Lewis (58 kilo) and Damion Hahn (85 kilo) each posted first place finishes, while Jared Lawrence placed second (69 kilo) and Matt Kraft took seventh (85 kilo).

Other notes of interest: The University of Minnesota 2000 wrestling schedule poster was voted the nation's second best out of 89 entries in the Division A Class. Assistant coach Marty Morgan came up with this past year's motif which finished second to the Auburn University men's basketball collage.
