GOLDEN GOPHER GOLF TEAM TO COMPETE AT INDIANA

THE INDIANA INVITATIONAL - Minnesota is one of 15 teams set to compete at Indiana this weekend. Ten of the 11 Big Ten Conference teams will compete: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin. Penn State is the only conference school not scheduled to compete. In addition, Illinois State, Kent, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame and Southern Illinois join the field.
The format is a 54-hole tournament played on the par-71 Indiana University Public Golf Course. Saturday's competition will be two rounds with the final round on Sunday.
LAST COMPETITION - Minnesota placed eighth at the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu. The Golden Gophers scored 326 in the first round, 317 in the second and 307 in the final round to finish at 950.
Junior Katie Bakken (Brooklyn Center, Minn./ Brooklyn Center) led Minnesota for the third straight tournament by tying for 14th at 229. She recorded a 1- over-par 73 in the final round. Bakken won the individual title at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Park, Fla., on March 14.
Sophomore Megan Stier (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine) tied for 29th place at 236. Junior Jenny Bruun (Crookston, Minn./Central) was 40th at 242, while newcomer Karyn Stordahl (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) and sophomore Cindy Cannon (Big Lake, Minn./Monticello) tied for 48th at 247.
Two Minnesota individuals also competed: newcomer Kirstin Whalen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), who finished at 239, and sophomore Kristen Dooley (Albany, Minn./Albany), who finished at 266.
Arizona won the team title at 883, led by the top two individual finishers, who tied for first at 3-under- par 213.
UP NEXT - Minnesota has a week off before competing at Ohio State on April 22-23.
