GOPHERS WIN EIGHT EVENTS AT MINNESOTA QUALIFIER

BiMinnesota won eight events, getting a pair of wins from Jessica Shuster, in the Minnesota Qualifier in the team's final tuneup before next weekend's Big Ten Championships.

Shuster ran a career-best time of 24.52 seconds to win the 200-meter dash and also won the 400-meter dash in 55.03.

Amber Day gave the Gophers a sweep in the sprints, claiming the 100-meter dash in 12.21.

Rasa Michniovaite was Minnesota's other track event winner, winning the 800-meter run in 2:17.55.

In the field events, the Gophers won both horizontal jumps as Shani Marks set a personal-best in the long jump of 17 feet, 10 1/4 inches. Tracy LaVoi bettered her career-best by nearly two feet, winning the triple jump with a mark of 35-3.

Beth Howard set a Bierman Field recordin winning the hammer throw with a toss of 190-2 and Nicole Chimko added a victory in the javelin with a throw of 147-0.

The Gophers return to action when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Big Ten Championships, May 19-21, at the University of Iowa.
