Minnesota softball players Jordanne Nygren and Tammi Hays earned all-region honors Wednesday as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Nygren earned first-team all-region honors at second base, while Hays earned second-team all-region accolades in the outfield.

Nygren is the region's first-team member at second base for the second consecutive year. The sophomore from Farmington, N.M., led the Big Ten in home runs for the second straight year, hitting 14 homers with 46 runs batted in. Nygren led the Gophers with 11 doubles and a .623 slugging percentage, and was second on the Minnesota softball team with a .333 batting average. Earlier this month, Nygren was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and earned third-team all-Big Ten honors.

Hays earned her first-ever post-season honor with her second-team all-region selection. The sophomore from Hastings, Minn., led the Gophers with a .349 batting average, 23 stolen bases and was tied for the team lead with 31 runs scored. In her two years at Minnesota, Hays has compiled a .325 batting average with 121 hits, 74 runs scored and 39 stolen bases.

With their selection as all-region players, Nygren and Hays are eligible for All-American recognition by the NFCA. The All-America teams will be announced next Wednesday, May 24, in Oklahoma City at the NCAA Women's College World Series.
