LOWNEY TO COMPETE IN PAN AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lowney (Appleton, Wis.), 1999 Junior World Champion and this year's U.S. Nationals runner-up will wrestle Greco-Roman in the 213.75-pound weight class. Also making the Greco-Roman lineup for the Storm are Quincey Clark (New Brighton, Minn.) and Brandon Paulson (Golden Valley, Minn.). Clark was one of two U.S. Nationals champions this year while Paulson won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta,Ga. Coaching the Storm will be former Golden Gopher wrestler Dan Chandler (1972- 74).
Held three of every four years during the non-Pan American Games years, the Pan American Championships features the best wrestlers in North, Central, and South America. The Greco- Roman tournament will be held on May 22-24 while the freestyle tournament will take place May 25-27.

The 2000 University of Minnesota Wrestling Media Guide was voted second best in the collegiate division by Wrestling USA Magazine in this year's publication contest. In addition, the Golden Gophers' schedule poster was tabbed third.
